NEW !! (2004) NEW !! (2004) NEW !!
The
last version of the program Newcomb (V1) is,
as already said, written for a DOS environment. From the data of the
astrological counseling office Gieles VOF in The Hague, there were clear
indications that there quite some people who used the dutch program
Ptolomeus under DOS or Windows-3.1 Now
with the latest developments almost everybody has a PC running under
Windows-95 or higher (98, NT, 2000, Me, XP). I had to revise my program for this large group of users and to accommodate for the many suggestions that people had done. This resulted in hard work with the programming language Delphi-4 and I created Newcomb Version-2 from scratch (only using my self developped astronomy calculations). All posibilities of Newcomb Version-2 will be discused below. Standard characteristics for both Newcomb-V1 as Newcomb-V2. (for extra characteristics of V2) Radix
horoscpe. Harmonics:
voor all planets. Every harmonic chosen between 1-99 will be calculated
and also used in the progressive horoscope when checked in the radix
options. ·
Antiscia
for all planets when checked in the radix options. You can choose to
mirror around the axis 90-270 (Cancer-Capricorn) or 0-180 (Aries-Libra) ·
Midpoints
for alle planets and houses. These midpoints are shown in the report in 3
columns Geocentric
Right Ascension and Lattitude for all planets. RA is shown to 0,001
sec. Lattitude is shown Heliocentric
Longitude and Lattitude. For people who like heliocentric astrology.
But also very useful for comparing/calculating heliocentric positions of
planets. Longitude and Lattiude will be shown up to 0,01 seconds of arc. Apparent
or True positions. This option is new to common astrology programs.
You can decide to calculate True positions (as they are in reality) or
Apparent (as we see them in the sky at any moment). Nodes
of the planets. Just like the Moon’s Node (Dragon Head) which is the
intersection point of the Moon’s orbit with the Ecliptic (Sun’s orbit),
all other planets have nodes too. Their orbits also intersect the Sun’s
orbit. If checked in the Radix options, the program will show all
planet’s nodes in a report Reaction
points. The famous dutch astrologer Cornelis Gorter discusses this in
his book “De Techniek der Astrologie”. Reaction point are calculated
when checked in the Radix options and are shown in a report. You can read
more about them in the Newcomb
manual which is also in this website. House
systems. The program offers 8 house systems: Placidus, Regiomontanus,
Morinus, Koch, Campanus, Topocentric, Equal Houses from the Ascendant and
Phorphyry. Application
of the 110 Fixed Stars. As documented in Vivian Robson’s book
“The Fixed Stars and Constellations in Astrology”. Precision 0,1
seconds of arc. They are calculated when checked in the Radix options and
are also used in progeressions to date. Declinations
of planets and houses when checked in the Radix options. They are also
used for the progressive horoscope to calculate parallels to date. Besides
the “normal aspects” (0,30,45,60,90,120,135,150,180,parallel) you can
also decide to use additional aspects (18,36,72,108,144 and the
Septile). When checked in the Radix Options you can also set the orb for
these aspects. You can also use them when calculating the progressive
horoscope and the progressions to date Eastpoint
calculation. The Eastpoint is the Ascendant for 0 degrees lattidue for
the same Sidereal Time of your horoscope. When checked in the Radix
options the Eastpoint will be shown in a report. Vertex
calculation. The Vertex is the intersection of the Prime Vertical with
the plane of the Ecliptic. When this Radix option is checked, the Vertex
will be shown on a report. Compass.
Longitude, Lattitude, RA and Declination are used to calculate Azimuth and
Height. Azimuth is given from 0 (north) to 90 (east), 180 (south), 270
(west) and 360 (north). With this compass you can decide where to go, take
a job, etc. True
Node. Normally the ascending Moon’s Node (Dragons Head) is
calculated from the “mean” data of the Moon’s orbit. The Mean Node
is always retrograde with a
mean velocity of about 3’12” per day. The Moon’s True Node can go
retrograde as prograde. When checked in the Radix options, the program
will calculate True Node for Radix and progressions. Sidereal
Zodiak. Almost all astrologers use the Tropical Zodiak with the
Tropical Sign Aries as the beginning point of the ecliptic. When you check
the Radix option Sidereal Zodiak, all planets and houses are calculated
for the acutal position of the Equinox to the background of the Fixed
Stars (using Precession). Radix positions, aspects and progressions are
calculated for the Sidereal option. The Synetic Vernal Point (accordig to
Fagan) is calculated to 0,1 seconds of arc. Orbs
can be adjusted for the aspects 0,30,45,60,90,120,135,150,180 and
parallel. Progressieve
horoscope Normal
or traditional progressions on basis: 1 day = 1 year. Aspects to date
are calculated for any specific year or for a range of dates. Progressive
houses are calculated according the setting in the Radix options. When
checked, the True Lunar Node is calculated instead of the Mean Node. When
checked, the Sidereal positions are calculated instead of Tropical ones.
When checked either True of Apparent positions are calculated. Progressions
using the MINUS-1 system of the duch astrologer Jan Bernard Gieles.
Aspects to date are calculated for any specific year or for a range of
dates. Progressive houses are calculated according the setting in the
Radix options. When checked, the True Lunar Node is calculated instead of
the Mean Node. When checked, the Sidereal positions are calculated instead
of Tropical ones. When checked either True of Apparent positions are
calculated. Transit
aspects for the planets Mars to Pluto for a period of max. 60 days.
Houses are calculated according to the Radix options settings. True Lunar
Node or Mean Node is optional. Sidereal or Tropical is optional. True or
Apparent positions is optional. Sun’s
Arc progressions. All progressive positions of the planets (except the
Sun) are determined by the arc the Sun has progressed from birth. You can
choose for Traditional progressions of MINUS-1 progressions for the Sun
and planets. Options like True Lunar Node, Sidereal positions or
Apparent/True positions can be used here too. Harmonic
progressions. You can calculate harmonic progressions by entering the
progressive year(s). The program calculates the Harmonics for every
progressive year and calculates progressions to date. Actual
World Situation. In the duch Magazine “Sagittius” the World
Situation has been published with great success. To make these predictions,
the actual positions from the ephemeris were used but in addition… the
transits of the planets across the Actual Fixed Stars. This was the
“secret” behind the World Situation stories. You can calculate this by
setting the World Situation option in the Progressieve Options. List
of Primary Progressions of the House cusps. From any date to any othr
date you can make a list of all Primary Directions to date of the
progressive houses to radix planets and houses. House system is set in the
Radix options settings. List
of progressive house positions from any starting date to any ending
date. This option makes a compact list of the progressive cusps
10,11,12,1,2 and 3. Houses are calculated according to the Radix options
settings. In
all cases, whenever progressions to date are calculated, the program looks
at the Radix options settings. When the option “Fixed Stars” is
unchecked, progressive conjunctions to the Fixed Stars are not calculated.
When the option “Declinations” is unchecked, then progressive
parallels are not calculated. Some
extra options to Newcomb-V1(i.e. also in Newcomb-V2) You
can store horoscopes to hard disk for later use Using
the data from Vivian Robson’s book “The Fixed Stars and constellations
in Astrology”, a list of all 110 Fixed Stars will be produced to a
report. These are all stars related to the calculated horoscope. Longitude
and Declination will be given to the arc second You
can show on the screen or print to a report the positions of houses and
planets for any date in the future or in the past (even before the date of
birth!). These are the progressed planets and houses following the chosen
options in Progressions Options. In
addition daily velocities of all planets are shown and planets are sorted
in descending order of zodiak position. In this way, manually drawing the
planets into the horoscope is made easier. Correction
of the horoscope This
VERY important part of the program will allow you to correct the horoscope
for events in the past on an exact date. Correction is automatically made
to the birth time. You can show the horoscope data including the
corrections in birth time. There are 2 cases of correction: Case-1: Case-2:
Extra characteristics for the program Newcomb-V2 (see standard characteristics)
Extra characteristics: Progressive horoscope
Extra characteristics:
Exemples. 2) Graphical view of the progressive velocity of the Moon. You can display one or more planets by checking the planets name in de check box. now we have the velocities of Uranus(blue) and Pluto(brown) together:
Above
you see the progressive velocity of Uranus in the period 2010 to 2030 for
a certain progresive horoscope. The scale is now very detailed. You can
clearly see here that Uranus will be Retrograde in the year 2021, because
its velociy will be native by then. Every planet has its own color which is in accord with his astrological traditional color. You can combine such a graph with a positional graph and then you see in a minute the maximum attainable position for a planet. (and also where a planet will never go.....) In the graph above you see the combined positional graph of Uranus in the same period. You can clearly see the maximum position that Uranus will reach around 2021, which is about 131°39'54" which is 11°39'54" Leo. Now you can make some conclusions. For example Uranus square to Moon's node on 13.05.23 Scorpio will never be completed because Uranus will only reach 11.39.54. This is important to know when you prepare your directions! 3. Graphical overview of declinations You can set the scale with the maximum and minimum sliders. Period of validity and accuracy of the calculations. On basis van the used theories of planetary calcultations, the Lunar Theory, theories of nutation and precession and my own 462 tests and comparisons with the most modern ephemeris, the following table is constructed in which you can see the validty of the calculations.
In the table below you will find accuracies in seconds of arc per planet for each period of time.
Node the good accuracy for the Moon, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto in the time periode +1900 to +2100. Striking is the lack of accuracy for Pluto
in the period +1700 to +1885. After 1885 to about +2099 the mean accuracy
for Pluto is about 0,5 second of arc in Longitude. The true Lunar Node is given to about 1'10" accuracy. The cause for this is that not all correction terms were used for the change to mean lunar node to true lunar node. This was done because Newcomb-V1 was developped in Pascal-7 with limited computer memory. In version-3 accuracy will be given to about 0,1" using all of 30,000 correction terms from the Lunar Theory ELP2000B Sidereal Time is calculated to 0,002 seconds due to very accurate formulas for the Mean and Appaent Sidereal Time and nutation to about 0,002". In the program the Sidereal Time is given to 0,01 sec. Related to this are the accuracies for the house cusps. They are about 15 times the accuracy of the Sidereal Time, so globally house cusps are accurate to 0,15 seconds of arc. Fast rising signs (like Pisces and Aries) will show about 0,6 seconds of arc accuracy. The value of Delta-T (this is the amount in
seconds of time you must add to the GMT to have ET) is determined with
about 1 to 2 seconds between the years 1900 and 2010. After 2010 you must
specify Delta-T yourself in an inputbox.
